AI agent for bowdenCloud apps

bc‑agent

Bring your own AI into my apps. Ask in plain words, and bc‑agent works the app with you: it writes music, flies a spacecraft, traces family trees, plans launches and coaches chemistry.

Optional on every app: each one works fully without it. bc‑agent runs in your browser with your own OpenAI key, so there is nothing to sign up for.

Optional, by design

A companion, not a requirement

Every app I build works on its own, exactly as it always has. bc‑agent is an extra for people who already use AI and want to put it to work inside my products.

It is a small button in the bottom corner. Leave it closed and it stays out of the way. Open it, and the app gains an assistant that can see what you see and use the app's own controls: the same edits, moves and buttons you would make yourself.

  • Optional on every app
  • No account and no sign-up
  • Your own OpenAI key, kept in your browser
  • Nothing sent anywhere until you add a key and ask
  • Desktop and phone, typing or talking

Where it works

One assistant, nine places

bc‑agent knows each app the way its builder does. It drives the app's own state and controls, so every change shows up in the app as if you had made it, and most can be undone.

  • MIDI

    Writes and edits music

Writes and edits notes, creates instrument tracks, sets tempo, key and the harmony lane, runs the app's own commands, and plays. Each change is one undo step.

“Add a syncopated finger-bass line that follows the chords.”

    Open MIDI
  • Planet Ari

    Pilot and tutor

In Explore mode it flies the ship, inspects any of the 94 objects, sets the date and plans real orbits. In Story mode it is a tutor: hints and explanations, never the answer.

“Put the ship in a low circular orbit around Titan, as low as is safe.”

    Open Planet Ari
  • Genesis Knowledge Graph

    Finds and explains

Searches and focuses records, switches lenses and filters, and opens passages. It traces connections and lineage, with the verses that support each link.

“How is Lot related to Esau?”

    Open Genesis
  • Gospels and Acts

    Finds and explains

The same explorer over Matthew to Acts, including the Ministry lens and people who share a name, like the seven Marys.

“Trace Paul's journeys in Acts 13–28.”

    Open Gospels and Acts
  • Forge & Co.

    Chemistry tutor

Explains the question, checks your working against the expected answer, and says why an answer was wrong. It coaches with the game's own hints and never submits for you.

“Can you check my working before I submit?”

    Open Forge & Co.
  • Strategic Planner

    Builds plans

Builds a whole plan from one sentence: cards, positions, colours and links. Then it edits, links and moves cards, manages boards and themes, and undoes its own changes.

“Plan a course launch, working backwards from 200 paying students by March.”

    Open Strategic Planner
  • Managing Up

    Plays in plain words

Say what you want to say, to whom and in whose voice. It picks the matching phrases and sends only when you ask. It sees only what you see on screen.

“Tell Mark the real Q3 win is drone delivery. Send it.”

    Open Managing Up
  • MoodBuying

    Shopping consultant

Finds your mood among 51, searches its ranked feed by words, price and category, and saves picks to your list. Product pages are yours to open.

“Something cosy for a night in, under $30.”

    Open MoodBuying
  • bowdencloud.com

    Your guide

Answers questions about my projects from the site's own content, takes you to the right page, points at screens and videos, and opens live apps.

“Show me something built with 3D graphics.”

    Open bowdencloud.com

See it at work

Real requests, real answers

Each screen is a real conversation on the live apps. The panel lists every step bc‑agent takes, so you can see exactly what it did.

  • MIDI with an eight-bar A minor chord progression on the harmony lane and a new syncopated bassline, beside the bc-agent panel describing both changes
MIDI: a chord progression on the harmony lane, then a bassline that follows it
  • Planet Ari's Explore mode at Saturn, with bc-agent explaining why Saturn has rings
Planet Ari: flown to Saturn, with an explanation of its rings
  • The Genesis Knowledge Graph focused on Lot, with bc-agent tracing Lot to Esau through Haran, Abraham and Isaac, citing a verse for each step
Genesis: Lot to Esau, with a verse for every link
  • Strategic Planner's Map View of a new eight-card plan for a course launch, created by bc-agent from one sentence
Strategic Planner: a working-backwards plan from one sentence
  • Forge and Co. on a balancing-equations task, with bc-agent explaining the question and asking the player to count the oxygen atoms
Forge & Co.: a tutor that explains the task and hands back the next step
  • Managing Up mid-mission, with bc‑agent having started the mission, collected a hashtag from Sarah's message and sent a message to Mark, then reporting his reaction
Managing Up: a mission started, a phrase collected and a message sent, all in plain words

Desktop or phone

On a computer, bc‑agent docks to the side of the window. Drag its edge to make it wider. On a phone, it slides up from the bottom and stays above the keyboard, even on apps that are wider than the screen.

Swipe the sheet down to close it. Tap the mic to talk instead of typing.

Bring your own key

Your key, your AI

bc‑agent uses your OpenAI account, not mine. You add an API key once on each app, and the chat calls OpenAI directly from your browser.

There is no bc‑agent server. The chat is a few small files that run in your browser. Nothing sits between you and OpenAI that could keep, read or leak your key or your conversations. There is nothing for me to bill, either: OpenAI charges your account for what you use, and you can see every request in your OpenAI dashboard.

This is called bring your own key (BYOK). It keeps you in control: you choose the model, you set the budget, and you can turn the key off at any time.

Stays in your browser

  • Your key. Kept for that app only. Turn off “Remember my key on this device” to keep it for the open tab only.
  • Your conversation. Kept in the open tab, and gone when you close it.
  • Your settings. Model, voice and panel width, per app.

Goes to OpenAI, when you ask

  • What you type or say, and the conversation so far.
  • What the app shows that bc‑agent reads to help: your song's tracks, the board's cards, the question on screen.
  • Recordings, only if you turn on speech to text, to be transcribed.

Keep it safe

  • Create a project key for bc‑agent, and set a budget for the project in OpenAI's settings to keep spending in check.
  • Other scripts on the same site can read what a page stores, so on a shared or public computer, turn off “Remember my key on this device”.
  • You can delete or replace the key at platform.openai.com/api-keys at any time. A deleted key stops working everywhere at once.
  • What you send is covered by OpenAI's policies for its API.

Get started

Two minutes to your first answer

  1. Get an OpenAI API key

Sign in at platform.openai.com/api-keys and create a key. A project key with a monthly budget is the safest choice. It starts with sk-.

  2. Open one of the apps

Click the bc‑agent button in the bottom corner, or press Ctrl Shift Y.

  3. Add your key

Choose Add your API key, paste it, and choose Check key. When it says “Key works”, choose Save.

  4. Ask

Type what you want, or tap one of the suggestions. bc‑agent shows each step as it works, then tells you what it did.

  • The bc-agent panel the first time it opens: an introduction, suggestions, and an Add your API key button
The first time you open it
  • The bc-agent settings after Check key, showing Key works

Getting the most from it

Asking well

  • Say what you want done, not how. “Make the chorus brighter” or “show me who Jesus healed in Mark” is enough. bc‑agent works out the steps.
  • Be specific about what matters to you: bars, a price limit, a date, how many cards.
  • Follow up in the same conversation. “Now do the same for the verse”, “undo that” and “why?” all work.
  • Every step appears in the panel. Choose a step to see exactly what bc‑agent sent to the app and what came back.
  • In games and tutors, it coaches rather than plays. Ask for a hint and you get a hint, not the answer.
  • Before it leaves a game in progress, or deletes something big, it asks first.

Talking to it

Voice is off until you turn it on in Settings › Voice.

  • Speech to text: tap the mic next to the message box, talk, and tap it again. Or hold Ctrl Space anywhere on the page while the chat is open, and let go when you finish. The first time, your browser asks to use the microphone.
  • What you say is sent straight away, or put in the message box for you to check first, as you prefer.
  • Text to speech: bc‑agent reads its replies aloud in one of 13 voices, at the speed you choose, for every reply or only when you spoke first.

Shortcuts

KeysWhat they do
Ctrl Shift YOpen or close the chat
EnterSend. Shift Enter starts a new line
Hold Ctrl SpaceTalk, when speech to text is on. Ctrl Shift Space also works, and Alt Space on a Mac
EscCancel a recording, stop reading aloud, or close the chat

While you type in the chat, your keys stay in the chat. Space won't start MIDI playing, and Delete won't delete notes.

Conversations

  • A conversation follows you from page to page within an app, and survives a reload. It ends when you close the tab.
  • Choose + to start a new one.
  • Some requests take you to another page, on bowdencloud.com for example. The answer finishes on the new page.
  • If an app opens something in a new tab, your browser may block it. bc‑agent then shows a button to open it yourself.

Models and cost

The default model is gpt-5.4-nano, OpenAI's lowest-cost current tier. It handles everyday requests quickly and costs very little per message. A bigger model, such as gpt-5.4-mini, writes more interesting music, explains in more depth and handles longer plans. Choose Check key in Settings to list every model your key can use. OpenAI bills each message by its length, so long conversations and big models cost more. Your OpenAI usage page shows exactly what you have spent.

Your key

  • Each app keeps its own copy. Your browser keeps each website's storage separate, so you add the key once on each app you use.
  • To keep it for this visit only, turn off “Remember my key on this device” and save.
  • To remove it, clear the key field and save. To stop it working everywhere, delete it at platform.openai.com/api-keys.
  • Other providers: under Settings › Advanced you can point bc‑agent at any OpenAI-compatible API that allows requests from web pages and supports tool calling.

Troubleshooting

You seeTry
OpenAI 401The key is wrong or was deleted. Paste it again and choose Check key.
OpenAI 429The key has hit a rate limit, its budget, or its credit. Wait a moment, or check billing in OpenAI's settings.
OpenAI 404Your key can't use that model. Choose Check key and pick one from the list.
Microphone blockedAllow the microphone for the site from the icon at the left of the address bar, then try again.
A step marked ✕That step hit an error, and bc‑agent saw it too. It usually corrects itself in the next step. Choose the step to see the details.
MIDI reloads oncebc‑agent connects to MIDI the first time it is needed. Your song is saved first.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need bc‑agent to use the apps?

No. Every app works fully without it. bc‑agent is an optional companion for people who want to use their own AI with my products.

Does it cost anything?

bc‑agent itself is free. OpenAI charges your account for the requests your key makes, at its usual API prices. A budget in OpenAI's settings keeps the total in check.

Can you see my key or my conversations?

No. There is no bc‑agent server. Your key and your conversation stay in your browser, and requests go straight from your browser to OpenAI.

Why add my key on each app?

Browsers keep each website's storage separate, and there is no server to share it through. That separation is also a protection: one app can't read the key you gave another.

Do I need a ChatGPT subscription?

No. bc‑agent uses the OpenAI API, which is billed separately from ChatGPT plans. You need an OpenAI platform account with billing set up, and an API key from it.

What can bc‑agent see?

Only the app it is open on: your song, the board, the question on screen, and the app's own reference content. In Managing Up it sees only what the player sees. As a tutor in Forge & Co. and Planet Ari's Story mode, it reads the game's teaching notes so it can check your working, and it coaches rather than giving the answers away.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, on computers and phones. Voice needs a microphone, and the browser asks before using it.

Can it make mistakes?

Yes. It is an AI model, so check what matters. Its changes go through each app's own controls, most are one undo step, and every step is listed in the panel so you can see what it did.

Under the hood

One script, no server

bc‑agent is a single script that each of my apps loads from this site. It finds the app it is on, adds the chat in a sealed-off panel, and loads that app's tools only when you first open it. It drives each app through its own state and controls, so undo, autosave and the interface behave exactly as they do for your own edits.

<script src="https://agent.bowdencloud.com/agent.js" data-side="right"></script>

It began as a browser extension, and the same tools now run in the page. There is no account, no tracking and no server: just static files and your own key.
